Project News - East Cambusmoon

Work starts on site on Phase two of East Cambusmoon. Phase one was the creation of a low energy family home http://www.thomasrobinsonarchitects.co.uk/2/projects/By+Type/new-build-houses/5/gartocharn. Our clients have closely monitored energy use and have submitted data to The Low Energy Building Database . Undaunted by Phase One they have embarked on Phase 2 which is the renovation of a further 2 farm buildings to create environmentally sound,  holiday homes powered by renewable energy. Over the coming months we will update progress. You can also  keep updated via our client’s blog. http://eastcambusmoon.blogspot.com/

Product News - Wood Burning Masonry Heater

One of our current projects involves the installation of a Wood burning Masonry  Heater and bread oven . The Stove arrived in Scotland from Canada today and the damper is now in place so that flue construction can begin.

This is the first installation of a Temp-Cast wood burning Masonry Heater in Scotland (these stoves are also known as Russian Heaters, German tiled stoves, Kachelofen or Finnish Masonry Heaters).

The many benefits of a masonry heater include, very low wood consumption, improved indoor air quality , healthy heating, reduced environmental impact combined with the option to create bread and stew in the oven above. It is radiant and silent. The Stone Sun are agents for this product in the UK.

Home Building and Renovating Show

Thank you to everyone who came to visit us at the Home Building and Renovating Show at the weekend. There were many exhibitors with interesting products. Russwood have a range of timber cladding which would suit our Off-The-Peg Designs. Rob Roy Homes had a full size cross section through their Ultra Warm wall construction which could also be used in our  Off-The-Peg House Designs.

The Home Building and Renovating Show and Web site are a valuable source of information for self builders.

Introducing Off-the-Peg Designs

Our small collection of Off-the-Peg designs is now live.

Borne out of years of experience designing many house types  we have designed a collection of houses varying from 100m2-280m2 in size. Design Plans and Building Warrant Drawings can be bought as separate packages if you would like a more flexible and affordable approach to your new home.

If you are a self builder and thinking of building a new home its is well worth looking at these options. Internal layouts can be changed to suit your requirements. Houses can be specced up or down (even to Passive House Standards). The Off-the-Peg designs offer you good design and are an affordable and flexible option.

Thomas Robinson Architects are hosting their third annual Open Evening on 27th January. The evening takes the format of a drop in event where architects will be on hand all evening to answer questions from how to go about extending to how to maximise existing space. Due to its popularity the event has been expanded this year to include talks, slideshows and guest consultants: The Energy Savings Trust and Allied Surveyors. The Energy Savings Trust will give advice about energy issues including energy savings grants. Allied Surveyors will give advice about Home Reports and valuations. Tom Robinson of Thomas Robinson Architects added: “The open evening is a perfect opportunity for people considering an extension or build, to find out about all the issues involved. I am particularly pleased to welcome the Energy Savings Trust to the evening as I am passionate about incorporating energy reduction measures into projects. There will be access to a lot of valuable information during the evening.”
